About the Book

Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats: This book exposes many health myths and explains why people who ate traditional foods long ago were not susceptible to the many diseases that plague modern day America. We can eat these same foods today and experience the same level of health our ancestors had, but we have an advantage: modern technology.

We don't have to hunt our own meat or mill our own flour on a rock, we have grocery store, electric appliances and online shopping...

Read this book and start your journey toward renewed health. Then come back to stock your pantry full of nourishing traditional foods!

Nourishing Traditions Items

These are some of the nutrient dense foods we order throughout the year. If you'd like to receive an email when an order cycle begins, sign up here.
Rapadura: Rapadura is a natural, whole, organic alternative to processed sugars. It is simply the dried granules from the juice of sugar cane. Nothing added. Nothing removed. Rapadura contains an abundance of minerals and vitamins, it tastes great, and it's very easy to use. Just substitute cup for cup of white sugar or brown sugar in recipes. You can even make your own powdered whole sugar by mixing Rapadura in the blender. read more
High Vitamin Butter Oil: High vitamin butter oil, or ghee, is the oil portion of organic butter which is made from grass fed cows' milk. This butter oil is made only in spring and fall, when the cows are actually out on the pasture eating rapidly growing fresh green grass. It is especially high in vitamins A and K; helpful for acne, curing cavities, conception and overall good health. Some people take high vitamin butter oil in capsules as a supplement... more
Grass Fed Meat & Dairy: Cows, sheep, and chickens that spend their days out on fresh green pastures, eating green grass as God intended them to do, give us meat, milk and eggs that are so much better for us than those of animals on feed lots or cooped up in barns. Take a look at our local food page for sources of naturally-raised meats and dairy products in the middle and western Tennessee area.
Celtic Sea Salt: Salt is necessary for life. But just like refined sugar, table salt has been stripped of the very nutrients your body needs in order to use the salt itself. Instead of benefitting your body, table salt actually dehydrates your body by pulling water out of the cells and tissues. That's why you feel so thirsty after eating a salty meal. Celtic Sea Salt is a truly unrefined salt, containing all the minerals of the ocean. It's delicious too! read more
Expeller Pressed Organic Coconut Oil: Despite years of enduring a bad rap, coconut oil is making its way back into its rightful place as a truly healthy oil. One reason coconut oil is so good for you is this: unsaturated oils will become rancid within hours of cooking, even in the refrigerator. Since coconut oil is a saturated fat, it is stable at higher temperatures than unsaturated oils and will not become rancid when you heat it. read more
Gold Label Virgin Organic Coconut Oil: One of the main healthy components of coconut oil is lauric acid, in fact, coconut oil is about 50% lauric acid. Lauric acid is a medium chain fatty acid that protects us from lipid coated viruses such as HIV, herpes, influenza, various pathogenic bacteria including heliobacter pylori (the bacteria responsible for stomach ulcers), and other harmful organisms. read more
Local Fresh Veggies: Although we don't raise vegetables for sale, we know some wonderful families who do! The best part is that they're local, scattered throughout the western half of Tennessee. Many of these farming families operate what's known as a CSA, which stands for Community Supported Agriculture. With CSA's, you generally sign up to receive  a basket of fresh vegetables for several months. You'll find several CSA's on our local food page.
